Size information

Ring slings come in different sizes. Before purchasing one, it is useful to know which size you need. The longer the ring sling, the longer the 'tail' (the part of the fabric that hangs down). The rings are already attached to the fabric of every ring sling.

Slings & Things has ring slings in various sizes in its range. The size varies by brand.
For example, the ring slings from Little Frog are available in no fewer than 3 sizes: 1.70 m. / 2.00–2.10 m. / 2.30 m.
Many brands make ring slings in only one size, such as Yaro (1.80 m.) and Hoppediz (2.00 m.)

But which ring sling size do I need?

As you can see, the ring slings do not differ very much in length. We generally use the following sizing guidelines:

  • Size 1.70 m. is suitable if you are a little shorter and slimmer.
  • The sizes 1.80 m. / 1.90 m. / 2.00 m. / 2.10 m. are suitable for virtually every body type.
  • Size 2.30 m. is the longest in our range and suitable if you are particularly tall or broad.

In short:

First, choose a ring sling that you like, because that is also the one you will enjoy carrying with most. Then look at the size. If you have an average build, virtually any ring sling will fit, but depending on the size you choose, you will have a shorter or longer tail left over. Are you choosing a ring sling that is available in several sizes? Then consider your own build and choose either a somewhat longer or somewhat shorter tail. A (too) long tail can easily be 'tucked away' by draping the fabric around the rings once. You can clearly see this in the middle photo above. Still unsure? Then contact us for advice!

Shoulder styles for a ring sling

Above you can see some photos of different shoulders on a ring sling. We distinguish between:

  • Gathered shoulder also known as an unfolded shoulder. Here, the fabric gathers considerably around the rings; this is also known as 'gathering'. This is the most popular shoulder because you can spread the fabric out yourself as you prefer. Would you rather have the fabric spread a little wider across your shoulder and arm, or a little narrower? No problem with this ring sling. Almost all the ring slings in our range have this shoulder!
  • Folded shoulder also known as a folded shoulder. Here, the fabric is folded and reduced to approximately 1/3 of its original width. The fabric is then stitched close to the rings. This way, the fabric also fans out over your shoulder, but not across its full width as with the gathered shoulder.
  • Padded shoulder also known as a padded shoulder. Here, the fabric is padded at shoulder level, creating a small cushion that rests on your shoulder. The fabric cannot be spread out.

Sling rings

With a ring sling purchased from Slings & Things, the rings are already attached to the fabric. We also have separate sling rings for sale in our range. You can use these, for example, to tie your baby wrap in a different, 'fancy' way or to make a no-sew ring sling with a short baby wrap. If you are reasonably handy, you can also use sling rings to make a doll ring sling or a carry bag!
Read on our blog when you can use which size of sling rings!
